Carolyn Jeanne Wood, age 73 of Columbus died on Sunday, July 12, 2015 at the Larson House in Columbus. She was born on December 13, 1941 in Monroe to Myrto and Stella (Gilbertson) Gilbertson. She grew up in the rural Argyle, Blue Mounts and Mount Horeb areas, and graduated from the Mount Horeb High School in 1959. Carolyn was confirmed in the Perry Lutheran Church in Daleville. She was married to Jerome Wood on June 2, 1960 in Dubuque, Iowa. They lived in Madison, and a while in Oak Lawn, Illinois, and White Bear Lake, Minnesota. She worked as a waitress in Madison, and later as a secretary for many years. Carolyn loved quilting, sewing, traveling, playing Euchre, the dogs of friends and family and her Norwegian heritage. She loved her family, which was the center of her life. One of the great losses of her life was the death of her two sons, Scott who died at age 3, and Michael who died at age 27.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Ann (Ervin) Loest of Beaver Dam; one brother, Larry (Gloria) Gilbertson of Argyle; one sister, Cynthia Gilbertson of Hollandale; a sister-in-law, Jeanie Gilbertson of Hollandale; five grandchildren, Dustin Mason, Elizabeth Mason, Michelle (Sean) Serfort, Elena Loest, and John Loest; and five great-grandchildren, Mya Carolyn, Donovan, Kayla, Cheyanne & Aubrey. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sons Scott in 1973 and Michael in 1989, and two brothers, Merlin who died in 1952 as a child, and Keith who died in 2001; and a nephew Wesley Gilbertson who died in 1996.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at the Adams Lutheran Church in rural Argyle on highway A from 10:00 AM until the funeral service to be held at 1:00 PM. Rev. Rick Fry will officiate. Burial will be in the Adams Lutheran Church Cemetery. The Saether Funeral Home in Blanchardville is assisting the family.
