Clara Hendrickson, age 92 of Hollandale passed away peacefully on Monday, February 22, 2016 at the Upland Hills Health and Rehab Center in Dodgeville, WI. Clara was born in Hollandale on July 9, 1923 to Conrad and Maude (Hamman) Retrum. She attended school in Sandy Rock and Moscow Center. She married Anton (Tony) Hendrickson on October 12, 1940 at the Perry Lutheran Church in Daleyville. She lived in Hollandale all her life. Clara worked for many years at the Massey Chicken farm in rural Hollandale, and also was a housekeeper in Madison. She was a full-time mom, an avid gardener as well as an excellent cook and baker. Whenever her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren came to visit their first stop was to check her freezer for cookies or donuts. Clara was also known for her lefse & pie making; just last November she attended the Hollandale Lutheran Church lefse fundraiser. She also enjoyed making quilts for her grandchildren and the church missions up to the time her fingers and eyes wouldn't cooperate anymore. She was a member of the Hollandale Lutheran Church for 76 years.
Clara is survived by seven children, Jean (Wayne) Christen, Richard (Lynn) Hendrickson, Judy Hendrickson and Steve (Linda) Hendrickson, all of Hollandale, Lucille (LeRoy) Charles of Tomahawk, Connie (Dave) Harker of Mineral Point and Karen Smith (Kevin Frey) of Sauk City; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren; 2 step great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Johnson of Dodgeville; one sister-in-law, Margaret Hendrickson of Verona; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Tony in 1991; a son David in 1980, her parents; 4 sisters: a brother; and several brother and sister-in-laws.
A visitation for Clara Hendrickson will be held on Friday evening, February 26, 2016 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at New Hope Lutheran in Hollandale, and on Saturday, February 27, 2016 from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM at the church. Rev. Margo Martens will officiate. Burial will be in the Hollandale Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to any of the following: Hospice, Hollandale First Responders or Fire Department, Blanchardville ambulance, Upland Hills Health hospital, or Upland Hills Health and rehab center.
