David Daniel Henning, 59, passed away at home peacefully with the loving care of his wife Lisa. He fought a courageous battle this past year after a bone marrow transplant, resulting from an Acute Myeloid leukemia diagnosis.
Dave was born on December, 13th, 1966 in Baraboo, WI to Dan & Carol (Clark) Henning. He was raised and grew up in Monona, WI. He graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1985. During high school in 1983, Dave won WIAA State Track & Field. He also attended Jr. Olympics at Duke University for Track & Field during his junior year.
In 1991 he married Wendy Malek & had two beautiful daughters Diana & Melissa. They raised their daughters in Marshall, WI. Dave was very active in his daughters sporting activities as he was coaching their basketball teams from 3rd to 8th grades.
In 1990 he started work at Certco in Madison, where he held many different titles.
He was a teamster and also got the nickname “Rabble Rouser” as he was a passionate advocate for his team. Dave was forced to retire after his diagnosis after 36 years of service.
Dave met the love of his life, Lisa Gruenenfelder in 2007, while working at Certco. They started their life together in 2008. After many years together, in 2024 they decided to get married on December 12th in Madison. Dave picked the date. Lisa and Dave were both numbers people, so it was a great day to get married. Dave was a workhorse, he was also passionate about family and friends. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do to help a friend/family member.
Dave was an adventurous soul & loved to go on trips, swapmeets, and estate sales. Lisa was happy to join him on all of it, traveling made him happy. Dave loved the Christmas season, it was his favorite time of year. Dave was really into fantasy football, he would find himself winning a lot. Sports were a big part of his life, especially collecting sports memorabilia. Dave also loved listening to music, he and Lisa would often go and hear a lot of different live music.
Dave is survived by his loving wife Lisa Henning of Marshall, father; Dan Henning of Monona, two daughters; Diana Henning (John Benninger) of Reeseville and Melissa Henning of Waterloo. A step-son; Zachary Schams of Madison. A sister; Julie (Tim) Beisenstein of Sun Praire, two sister in-laws; Paula (Denny) Darrow of New Glarus, and Christie (Rick) Busch of Monroe. His mother and father in-laws; Vicki Rabe and David Barnes of Montello.
Dave is preceded in death by his mother Carol, a father-in-law Paul Gruenenfelder, and a brother in-law Mike Gruenenfelder.
The family would like to give an extra special thank you to all of his Certco work family for all your care and support, Dr. Aric Hall and the UW Hospital, bone marrow transplant team and all of the staff, you took amazing care of Dave, you are angels on Earth and we are forever grateful. And thanks to all of Dave & Lisa’s families for all of their love and support during this very difficult time.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday August 2nd from Noon until 4:00PM, with a sharing of memories at 2:00PM, at the Fire & EMS Community Building/Blanchardville Legion Building, 218 Mason St. Blanchardville, WI.
