David Eugene Hughes, age 67 of Blanchardville died on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at his home. He was born on May 23, 1959, in Dodgeville to Robert Eugene and Albertha Margaret (Weier) Hughes. Dave grew up in Jonesdale and then when he was in Junior High school their family moved to rural Mineral Point and Dave attended the Pecatonica School, graduating in 1977. On October 27, 1979, he married Laurie Sue Kainz at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Blanchardville. Over the course of Dave's work career, he worked for McGhee's Equipment, Zim’s Cheese Factory, and Ruan. Before he returned to Blanchardville, where he devoted 30+ years to serving the Blanchardville community as a mechanic working at Blanchardville Coop Oil Association, Gary’s Service Station, and Rue’s Service Station. Dave’s greatest joys were his children and his six grandsons. He loved giving his grandsons rides on the tractors and lawn mowers. He took his family to Antique Steam Engine Shows and camped at many of the shows. He enjoyed watching the Badgers and Packers from his favorite recliner.

Dave is survived by his wife, Laurie of Blanchardville; two children Adam (Rachel) Hughes of Huntley, Illinois, and Tracey (Kyle) Amacher of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin; six grandsons, Grayson, Korbyn and Eastyn Hughes and Liam, Kohen and Hudson Amacher; two sisters, Jane (Tom) Bratton of Mineral Point, and Donna Hughes of Blanchardville; a sister-in-law, Diann Hughes of Earlville, Illinois; a special niece, Carissa (Kirk) Venden and their 4 children Olivia, Leo, Quinn and Porter of Morton, Illinois; and many other nieces and nephews; and a special long time best friend Joe Strand of Hollandale.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Craig Allen Hughes who died at the age of 9 on November 28, 1989; a brother Robert Hughes; a sister Karen Misener; niece Jennifer Misener, and nephews, Eric Misener, Jerome Johnson, and Jeremy Kainz; and his father & mother in-law, Leo and Joanne Kainz.

A visitation for David will be held Friday evening, October 9, 2026, from 4:00 until 7:00pm at Blanchard Hall at 204 South Main Street in Blanchardville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 11:00 am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Blanchardville. The service will be livestreamed on the Saether Funeral Service Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/saetherfuneralservice Father Prabhakar Singareddy will officiate. A catered funeral lunch back at Blanchard Hall will follow. The public is invited to bring deserts to share. A family burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Blanchardville at a later date. Saether Funeral Service in Blanchardville is assisting the family.
