Dennis Wayne Severson

Dennis Wayne Severson (“Sligger”), age 86, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, at SSM Health Monroe Hospital.

Dennis was born on June 22, 1940, at St. Clare Hospital in Monroe, Wisconsin. He was raised in Blanchardville, where he spent his childhood and graduated from Blanchardville High School in May 1959.

On October 29, 1960, he married the love of his life and his best friend, Betty (Hanson) Severson. This coming October, they would have celebrated 66 years of marriage. Together they built a life centered on love, laughter, and family, raising four children: Lori Severson Elmer, Cari Severson, Joni Severson Eaton, and Barry Severson. Dennis is further survived by his brother Burnie Severson and sister Karen Boll.

Family was the heart of Dennis’s life. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and an incredibly proud grandfather. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his grandchildren, who loved and adored him: Taylor and Tessa Brown, Kira Elmer Duval, Kory and Ashley Eaton, and Rylie and Raya Severson. His gentle spirit, quiet strength, and unconditional love created memories they will treasure forever.

Although Dennis faced numerous health challenges throughout his life, he met each one with resilience, a positive outlook, and a wonderful sense of humor. He loved working with his hands and could fix just about anything. As a young man, he worked as a farmhand, developing the strong work ethic that stayed with him throughout his life. He later built a career providing on-the-road tire service for local farmers. When health concerns eventually forced him to slow down, he was still willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He will be remembered as a kind, gentle, and humble man whose generosity and willingness to help others touched countless lives.

Dennis is now reunited with his beloved daughter, Lori; his parents; his parents-in-law; his brothers Randy and Richard Severson and sister Joann Price. And many other family members and friends who went before him.

While our hearts are heavy as we say goodbye, we find comfort in knowing that Dennis is finally free from pain and at peace. We like to imagine him enjoying a beautiful reunion with Lori while sitting down with an endless pot of coffee—something that would have made him smile.

Our family extends our deepest gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at SSM Health Monroe Hospital and the New Glarus Home. The kindness, dignity, and exceptional care they provided Dennis—and our family—will never be forgotten. Their compassion meant more to us than words can express.

In accordance with Dennis’s wishes, he will be cremated. A private celebration of his life will be held with his immediate family in lieu of a public visitation.
