Dolores Mae Nyhus

Dolores Mae Nyhus, age 82 of the rural Mount Horeb-Blanchardville area died unexpectedly on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison following a farming accident. She was born on May 9, 1929 in Green County, Wisconsin to Iren and Alfa (Hanson) Wahl. Dolores grew up working on her parent's farm. She attended the Bem grade school in the Yellowstone area, and graduated from the Blanchardville High School. She worked at the Monroe Telephone Company for a time. She was married on February 13, 1949 to Grant Nyhus in the Blanchardville Lutheran Church. They farmed together in New Glarus, and then in the Yellowstone area for six years, and then they moved to the Nyhus homestead farm on Drammen Valley Road in 1957, where they are still milking and farming to this day. Dolores was a member of the Blanchardville Lutheran Church and Women of the ELCA. She worked side-by with Grant on the farm every day. She enjoyed quilting, and helping with the church Norwegian Supper. She was also an election worker in Perry Township. She loved raising flowers and doing yard work. She loved her animals, especially the calves. She and Grant also loved traveling, including trips to Norway, Switzerland and Hawaii. Dolores is survived by her husband, Grant Nyhus of rural Mount Horeb; one daughter, Roxann (Michael) Robinson of Phoenix, Arizona; a brother, Willis (Joyce) Wahl of Monroe; one sister, Joyce Iandola of Blanchardville; three grandchildren, Ryan Bollig of Dodgeville, Carissa Hughes of Fitchburg; and LaTasha Jackson of Phoenix, Arizona; and one great-grandson Xandar Bollig. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Charles Nyhus who died on September 28, 2001. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Blanchardville Lutheran Church in Blanchardville. Rev. Mark Gruner of the Pecatonica Lutheran Parish will officiate. Burial will be in the York Memorial Cemetery in rural Blanchardville. Friends may call Friday evening, August 19, 2011 from 4:00 until 9:00 PM at the Saether Funeral Home in Blanchardville.
