Doris Leone Kammerude

Doris Leone Kammerude, age 90 of rural Blanchardville died late Saturday evening, November 20, 2010 at her home, surrounded by her family. Doris was born on November 24, 1919 in the Yellowstone area, in rural Blanchardville to Elmer and Hanna (Larson) Hanson. She grew up in the Yellowstone area, went to the Farmer rural school and then attended high school in Argyle. She lived in New Glarus, where she worked as a beautician and then lived in Blanchardville. She married Jonas Sylvester Kammerude on February 28, 1948 in Darlington. After her marriage she worked for her mother-in-law, Mary Kammerude in the Kammerude Nursing Home next to their home, until around 1970. She then helped her family run the Yankee Hollow Campground near their home. Doris loved attending her children and grandchildren's sports games, Home Talent baseball and traveling, especially with Tri State Tours. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Doris is survived by her husband, Jonas Kammerude of rural Blanchardville; four children, Deanne (Gordy) Smukowski of Wautoma, WI, Leo (Betty) Gross Brownsville TX and Huntington, WV, Tom (Kathryn) Kammerude of Blanchardville, and Terri (Rick) Carlson of Hollandale; two sisters, Jean Heiman of Waunakee and June (Al) Beck of Racine; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Robert as a child, a brother Ray, sisters Norma and Alice, and a great-grandson at birth, Tristen Gross.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 604 East St. in Blanchardville. Fr. Thomas Gillespie of that church will officiate. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Blanchardville. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, November 23, 2010 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM concluding with a rosary service at the Saether Funeral Home at 109 Water Street in Blanchardville.
