Eileen Lucille Johnson, age 83 of Sienna Crest Assisted Living in Dodgeville, formerly of Blanchardville, died on Friday evening, September 18, 2015 at Sienna Crest. She was born on April 5, 1932 in Blanchardville to Elmer and Geneva (Larson) Johnson. She attended the Bainbridge country school and graduated from the Blanchardville High School in 1951. She was married to Daryl Johnson on September 17, 1952 in the Yellowstone Lutheran Church in rural Blanchardville. They farmed together for 25 years in the Blanchardville area and she also did housework in Madison for 20 years. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Blanchardville Lutheran church, and the newly formed New Hope Lutheran church in Blanchardville. Eileen loved watching her grandchildren play sports and looked forward to holidays and birthdays every year because she knew they would be spent with family. She enjoyed the art of quilting and made sure each one of her grandchildren had a homemade quilt from grandma. Eileen was an expert when it came time to making lefse and was eager to pass this tradition onto her granddaughters. Eileen always had a good time at the casino with Esther Thompson or spending with afternoon with her sister Doris Hermanson.
Eileen is survived by three children, Cheri Johnson and husband Doug Smieja of Oregon, Connie (Joe) Zimmerman of Blanchardville, and Dennis (Paula) Johnson of Mount Horeb; two sisters, Doris Hermanson of Blanchardville, and Jeanette Stamm of Darlington; five grandchildren, Missy (Craig) Palzkill of Brooklyn, Mark (Marissa) Johnson of Madison, Josh Zimmerman (and friend Emily Rudolph) of Fitchburg, Jorden Johnson (and friend Keith King) of Verona and Breanna Johnson of Mount Horeb; two great-grandchildren, Zach and Bryn Palzkill, both of Brooklyn; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Daryl Johnson on July 2, 1989; her sister Lenore Ballen who died on September 7, 2003; three brothers, Glen Johnson who died on March 25, 1990, John Johnson who died on October 22, 2002, and James Johnson who died on August 31, 2010.
A visitation for Eileen Johnson will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at the New Hope Lutheran Church (formerly Blanchardville Lutheran) in Blanchardville.
