Ernest Alvin Wellman

Ernest Alvin Wellman, age 97 of Medford, formerly of Blanchardville died on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Aspirus Care and Rehab center in Medford.  He was born on August 14, 1926, to Fred Arthur and Frieda (Bandi) Wellman.  Ernest grew up in southern Wisconsin.  He graduated from school in Orfordville.  Ernest worked driving trucks for most of his years, hauling milk in his early years and in later years drove delivering groceries, and at the end of his working years for Roadway in Illinois.  Ernest married Adeline Thompson on July 16, 1952, in Dubuque, Iowa.  They lived in the Monroe area until retiring to Blanchardville in August of 1987.  They moved to Medford to be near their son, James in 2002.  Adeline died later that year.  Ernest continued living in Medford for the remainder of his years.  He loved working with wood, making cabinets and refinishing furniture.  He also loved doing wordsearch, reading and garage sales.  He loved to visit and enjoyed his time living at Country Gardens, and later at Aspirus, both in Medford.

Ernest is survived by two sons, Nathan Wellman of Blanchardville and James (Blanche) Wellman of Medford; two stepsons, Gary Williams of Joshua Tree, California, and Bill Williams of Millston, Wisconsin; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and one niece, Arla (Paul) Wagner of Lansing, Iowa and their children Monica and Hans.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Adeline in 2002; stepson Jeffrey; and one sister, Eldora Kundert.

A visitation for Ernest will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at Blanchard Hall, at 204 South Main Street in Blanchardville. A service will follow at 12:00 pm. Rev. Chris Strohm of New Hope Lutheran Church in Blanchardville will officiate. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Blanchardville.
