Gaylord Francis Hermanson

February 15, 1926 — April 2, 2009

Gaylord Francis Hermanson, age 83 of the New Glarus Home, formerly of Blanchardville died on Thursday evening, April 2, 2009 at the New Glarus Home. He was born on February 15, 1926 at home in Lamont Township, Lafayette County, Wisconsin to Milton and Edna (Christenson) Hermanson. He attended the Otto Creek, Vanmetre and Jennings rural schools. He grew up in the Argyle and South Wayne areas. He was married on June 19, 1945 in Blanchardville to Mavis Arlene Skattum. They farmed in rural Argyle on Old Q with his oldest brother Harold after they were married. Then in around 1950 they moved to the Henry Erickson farm in rural Blanchardville, then bought that farm in the early 1960's. Mavis died unexpectedly on December 1, 1969 at the age of 42. He lived on his farm until 1980 when he moved to Blanchardville. He worked for Dearth Livestock for many years as a cattle hauler. He also worked as a patrolman for Blanchard Township. He was a member of the Yellowstone Lutheran Church where he was a past parish board member. He loved fishing, golfing and watching the Brewers and Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed traveling with his friend Joyce, his brother Buddy and Margaret, and his family. Gaylord is survived by his five living children, Gary (Marilyn) Hermanson of Fitchburg, Beverly (Larry) Ryan of Blanchardville, Shelly (Pat) Leonard of Blanchardville, Steve (Tina) Hermanson of Darlington, and John Hermanson of Blanchardville; Gaylord's close friend and companion, Joyce Dearth of Blanchardville; a son-in-law Tom Olson of Blanchardville; four brothers & sisters, Harold (Elva) Hermanson of Monroe, Charles (Betty) Hermanson of Darlington, Judy (Keith) Butler of South Wayne, and Carroll (Judy) Hermanson who enjoy life on the road in their camper; a sister-in-law, Margaret Hermanson of Darlington; 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 5 step-great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mavis, his daughter Sharon Olson who died in 1995, his granddaughter Cheryl Olson who died in 1991, his brother Milton Hermanson, Jr., and his sister Ruth Saunders. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Yellowstone Lutheran Church in rural Blanchardville. Rev. Daniel Bohlman will officiate. Burial will be in the Apple Grove Cemetery in rural Argyle. Friends may call on Monday evening, April 6, 2009 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Saether Funeral Home in Blanchardville.
