Gladys Campbell

August 10, 1904 — January 3, 2009

Gladys Erene Campbell, at age 104, passed from this life into the presence of the Lord Jesus on January 3, 2009 at the Mount Carmel Medical & Rehabilitation Center in Burlington, Wisconsin. She was born on August 10, 1904, the eighth of ten children, in the family log home in Iowa County, rural Hollandale, Wisconsin, the daughter of Casper & Inger (Disrud) Olson. She graduated from the Hollandale High School in 1922, and on finishing secretarial studies in 1923, she went to Minneapolis where she was employed at the Jewel Tea Company. On returning to the Hollandale area, she was married on June 2, 1932 to William L. Campbell at the Hollandale Lutheran Church. She farmed with her husband in the Hollandale area for about 30 years, until 1962. They lived in Dodgeville for a short time, and then retired to Burlington, Wisconsin in 1969. She was a member of the Ridgeway Primitive Methodist Church and later a member of the Burlington Church of the Nazarene, where she was involved in activities in both churches. Gladys is survived by 5 children, William (Ginger) of Burlington, Alice Campbell of Burlington, Walter (Mary) of Upland, Indiana, Mark (Dottie) of Monroe Center, IL, and Elizabeth (David) Becker of Mt. Horeb; 11 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 18 great- grandchildren; 1 step-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William, who died on August 8, 1994; all her siblings and in-laws: Mabel Olson, Oliver Olson, Clara (Henry) Hagen, Clarence (Alma) Olson, Esther (Selmer) Olson, Lloyd (Cora) Olson, Irvin (Janet) Olson, Inez (Lawrence) Everson, Sylvia (Marion) Olson, Helen (David) Johnson, Ralph Campbell, and Edith (Kenneth) Hutchinson; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Saether Funeral Home in Blanchardville. Rev. Terry W. Lemmon of the Burlington Church of the Nazarene will officiate. Burial will be in the Long Valley Cemetery in rural Hollandale. Friends may call Tuesday from 9:30 AM until the time of service at the Saether Funeral Home.
