Hazel Marie Doran

April 3, 1934 — September 17, 2015

Hazel Marie Doran, age 81 of Blanchardville, and formerly of Hollandale, died on Thursday morning, September 17, 2015 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. She was born on April 3, 1934 in Menasha, Wisconsin to Martin and Rowena (Carpenter) Arno. She went to school in Menasha, including the St. Patrick's Catholic Grade School, and the Menasha High School. Following high school she moved to Rockford, Illinois where she married, then later divorced Doug Keyes. Together they had a daughter Bonnie. Hazel worked for the Barber-Colman company in Rockford, and later met and married Ron Doran in 1957. In 1969 they moved to Hollandale where until 1974 she and Ron owned the Doran homestead, Fern Hills Farm in rural Hollandale. From 1974 until 1977 she and Ron owned and operated the Blarney Stone tavern in Hollandale. Hazel also drove school bus, worked for the Blanchardville Police Department in the early to mid-80's, worked for Mike Mitchell Realty in the late-80's, and worked for Ameritech in the early 90's until retiring in 1994 when she moved to Blanchardville. She also bartended at area establishments through the years. She was a Blanchardville village board member for several years. Hazel was known for her baking and pie making by all her family and friends. She also made hundreds of quilts, especially for her family. She loved tug-of-war, gambling and bowling.
Hazel is survived by five children, Bonnie Keyes of Mount Horeb and her special friend Ron Lien, Marty and Sandy Doran of Blanchardville, John and Dawn Doran of Blanchardville, Nick and Shari Doran of Deerfield, and Peggy and Bob Hittesdorf of Hollandale; eleven grandchildren, JJ Gordon, Barry Gordon, Rebecca Doran, Tommy Doran, Sean Doran, Preston Doran, Tyler Doran, Jake Doran, Claudia Doran, Keely Doran-James, and Dalton James; seven great-grandchildren, Clayton Gordon, Allison Gordon, Griffin Gordon, Gracie Gordon, Grady Gordon, Blake Doran, Decklin Doran, and one more on the way in November; sister Sally Redmond, and brother Jim (Gerrie) Arno, both of Menasha; and many special friends and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ron Doran, her son Patrick Doran, sister Joan Castille, brothers-in-law Paul Redmond and Leo Castille.
A visitation for Hazel Doran will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 from 4:00 until 9:00 PM at the Saether Funeral Home in Blanchardville, and Wednesday from noon until the time of service at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hollandale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the church. Fr. Thomas Gillespie of that church will officiate. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in rural Hollandale, followed by a lunch and gathering at the Country Side Lanes at the intersection of County F and highway 39 in rural Hollandale. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Agrace Hospice. The family wants to express special thanks to the staff of St. Mary's and Agrace Hospice. A mother should be like a quilt, keep the children warm, but don't smother them. This is why I want you all to have a quilt I made.
