Janna Lynn McCoy departed her earthly bonds peacefully on December 6, 2024. She fittingly spent her final days in the comfort of the loving country home in Hollandale Wisconsin. Janna's abundant capacity in nature, personal relationships and teaching harmonized with life on the farm. On the driftless valley in the country, Janna crafted beauty and enriched experiences of countless visits from family, students and friends. She was a shepherd of life at its fundamental core; a conductor of natural experience.
Born in Des Moines, Iowa November 20, 1946 to Betty (Dahl) and Marshall Schlick. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jim McCoy and her son, Jamie (Mackenzie) McCoy; grandchildren Madeline (18), James (17) and Molly (11); Her siblings Carol (Alan) Denker and Scott (Debbie) Schlick; brother-in-law, Craig (Susan) McCoy; nieces and nephews Meredith (Ricardo) McCoy, Kristi Fryman, Angela (Tim) Denker, Meghan (Derek) McCoy-Hess, Shannon (Arence) Gowe, Skyler (Quincie) Schlick, and Todd Schlick; and seven great nieces and nephews. Tanner, Harper, Sutter, Lucie, Chloe, Sterling, and Quailin. Janna was Preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Fred (wife Theresa) Schlick.
Jim and Janna raised their son, Jamie, in the farm setting until 1986 when they moved to Madison and balanced their time between the city and country farm. Janna taught in multiple positions in public schools. Her role as a guidance counselor highlighted her ability to provide emotional wisdom to students on their own journeys.
Her life in Southern Wisconsin was full of relationships creating a network of rich connections. Plants and flowers grew annually and she learned their names and blooming patterns. She took the time to learn people's names and patterns as well. Like the flowers she loved, she could listen and watch them bloom or cultivate and guide to help them flourish. Her optimism and compassion made daily life brighter with her presence.
It was Janna's idea to invite the Pecatonica first graders (and family members) to come fish for a fishing adventure in the spring. Janna's family would welcome memories of fishing and fish stories shared on her online obituary pages on the Saether Funeral Service website and on their Facebook page.
A celebration of Janna's abundant life will be scheduled in June of next year on her farmland lovingly called "The Shire". This will be a celebration of sharing stories and remembrances, exploring and enjoying the farm, and coming together to provide love and support to each other. Saether Funeral Service of Blanchardville is assisting the family.
