Jean Stiner

Jean Stiner, age 85 of Blanchardville died on Wednesday afternoon, December 13, 2023 at the home of her son Nathan in rural Blanchardville with whom she had been staying.  She was born to Riley & Orpha (Hanson) Walrack on June 27, 1938 in rural Blanchardville.  She grew up in rural Blanchardville, attended the Meadowview country school, and graduated from the Blanchardville High School in 1956.  She married the love of her life, Norris Ula on May 17, 1958 on the "Syttende Mai" at the York Memorial Lutheran Church in rural Blanchardville.

Jean loved baking, trying new recipes, and hosting many Christmases, birthdays and Easter dinners through the years.  She was very proud of her Norwegian heritage.  She looked forward to her Wednesday morning coffee hour with her family nd friends.  She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Jean was very active in her church, York Memorial, where she served in the Women of the ELCA, Bible studies, and numerous committees.  After Norris died suddenly in November of 1979 she continued to live on the Ula Homestead farm.  Two years later she married Russell Stiner and they then moved into Blanchardville where they resided for many years.  Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her the most joy in her life.  She was so proud of all their achievements.

Jean is survived by her twin sons on the farm, Nathan (Joan) and Nolan (Suzanne) Ula; a granddaughter, Melanie Ula; three grandsons, Joel (Julie), Josh (Tara) and Nathan (Stephanie) Ula; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Julie (Dave) Harris; ; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Norris in 1979; and her husband Russell in 2010; a half-sister Kathleen (Otis) Ayen; and two half-brothers Lloyd Walrack and Riley Walrack Jr.

A visitation for Jean will be held on Tuesday evening, December 19, 2023 from 4:00 until 7:00 pm at Blanchard Hall at 204 South Main Street in Blanchardville.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at 11:00 am at Blanchard Hall.  Rev Chris Strohm will officiate.  Burial will be in the York Memorial Cemetery in rural Blanchardville.  A catered funeral lunch will follow at Blanchard Hall.  Dessert items are welcome at the lunch.  Saether Funeral Service of Blanchardville is assisting the family.  Online memories and condolences can be shared with the family at saetherfuneralservice.com
