Jelayne "Jill" LaVon Hughes, age 44 of Blanchardville died early Monday morning, December 21, 2009 in a fire in Blanchardville. She was born on February 10, 1965 in Dodgeville to William & Elayne (Moen) Hughes. She grew up in the Barneveld area, and graduated from the Barneveld High School in 1983. She loved doing daycare in her home in Mount Horeb, Barneveld and Hollandale. She owned and ran the grocery store, Hodgson Foods, in Barneveld for a time and also worked at the VIP bar and restaurant in Hollandale. In 2007 she started operating, and later bought the Silver Dollar Saloon in Blanchardville with her partner and companion Dan Hardekopf. She was a past member of the Barneveld Lutheran Church. Jill loved canoeing, riding horses, and collecting dolls and model horses. She was a huge Packers fan, "GO PACKERS!" She had many friends that she dearly loved and who will miss her. Jill is survived by her four children, Joey Schlimgen of Mount Horeb, Krystle Schlimgen of Madison, Dylan Davis of Dodgeville, and Tyler Hodgson of Blanchardville; Dan's children, Ryan, Nicole, Bradley and Hunter; her parents, F. Wm "Bill" (Janet) Hughes of Milton, and Elayne Ann Moen Martin of Manitowoc; four siblings, Doug (Michelle Kortas) Hughes of Elizabethtown, Illinois, Lynn (Rick) Daniels of Barneveld, Katee (Phillip) Christianson of Ridgeway, and Jeff (Tracy Green) Hughes of Waunakee; three step-brothers and two step-sisters; her maternal grandmother, Amy Moen of Barneveld; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Davis; her special friend, Dan Hardekopf who died in the fire with her; her maternal grandfather, Ernest Moen; her paternal grandparents, Floyd & Helen Hughes; and a cousin, Ronald Arndt. Visitation for Jill Hughes and her special friend Dan Hardekopf will be held on Wednesday evening, December 23, 2009 from 3:00 until 8:00 PM at the American Legion Post in Blanchardville. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 27, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Barneveld Lutheran Church in Barneveld. Rev. Jack Way will officiate.
