Joy Harriet Hosking

August 13, 1918 — November 10, 2013

Joy Harriet Hosking, age 95 of the Skaalen home in Stoughton, formerly of Hollandale died on Sunday morning, November 10, 2013 at the Skaalen Home. She was born on August 13, 1918 in Hollandale, the daughter of Peter C. and Minnie (Matson) Peterson. She attended the Long Valley rural school and Hollandale High School, graduating in 1936. She attended and graduated from the Platteville Teachers College.

Joy taught in rural schools, then in Columbus, Wisconsin for a few years, and then taught at the Hollandale Elementary School for 31 years, mostly teaching first grade. She was a very active member of the Hollandale Lutheran Church and the Women of the ELCA. She enjoyed quilting with the ladies of the church, cross stitching and oil painting.

Joy is survived by her son, Hugh (Carolyn) Hosking of Madison; a sister-in-law, Jean Peterson of Racine; and one grandson, Alex (Michelle) Hosking of Barcelona, Spain. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ralph Peterson; and four sisters, Margaret Christensen, Doris Thompson, Florence McInvaille, and Clarice Lunda.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Hollandale Lutheran Church in Hollandale. Rev. Mark Gruner of the Pecatonica Lutheran Parish will officiate. Burial will be in the Long Valley cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of service at the Hollandale Lutheran Church. The Saether Funeral Home in Blanchardville is assisting the family.
