Larry Keith Mitchell

August 27, 1949 — July 14, 2017

Larry "Knute" Mitchell, age 67 of Mineral Point, a man with a big heart and beautiful soul has went on to his heavenly home. Larry died while serving his Amish friends on Friday, July 14, 2017 in Iowa. He was born on August 27, 1949 to Keith & Katherine (Spoerle) Mitchell. Larry would often say his life became worth living when he met his wife (the former Dorothy Schober), and when he became a practicing Christian. Larry made a difference in so many lives, through coaching youth sports, his leadership of the Mineral Point Interfaith Food Pantry, being a driver for The Hodan Center, and a volunteer for the SWCAP Lift program. He worked and became part owner of his dad's family businesses, including the NAPA stores. He owned and operated his bar "The Mineral Point Mining Company" in the 80's. He served on the Mineral Point Park Board. Larry loved sports, in any size, shape or form. He played ball until he was 50, and was still coaching Little League in recent years. He was a huge Packer, Badger and Brewer fan, but he "bled" Mineral Point Blue! He was a proud lifetime supporter of the Wrestling Club and Gridiron Club. He took great pride in following his nephews, Christopher and Phillip, in all their sporting events. His dad instilled the love of stockcar racing in his heart. He started many young boys out in the racing world, including the Dean Boys and Tim Lindholm. Larry and his friend Kim Enzenroth traveled all over the country. He saw many, many Bowl Games, just last winter he went to 3-didn't care who it was, just wanted to watch good football! He went to many NASCAR races, many Kentucky Derbys, and went to a game in every Big 10 stadium. He could quote statistics for ANY sport, from Mineral Point to National Leagues.
Above all else, Larry was an amazing friend to many, an amazing husband to Dottie, a proud and loving step-dad to Tim (Katelyn) and loved being a grandpa to Jacob. Larry said there's no such word as step – I consider him my son I've always wanted. We were all able to witness the wonderful, kind, loving, son he was to his mom. He did so much for her through the years, and continued to see her several times a week.
Larry had a faith that we can only hope to one day achieve, and he willingly shared that with all who would listen, and some that wouldn't. His Bible reading was a daily event.
He was a proud member of Masonic Lodge #1 of Mineral Point, where he currently served as Tyler, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mineral Point where he was currently a trustee.
Larry is survived by his wife Dottie and son Tim (Katelyn), and grandson Jacob; his mother, Katherine Mitchell; his brother Rich; his sister Karen; his nephews and nieces were his pride and joy – Christopher, Phillip, Kyle, Jennifer and Danielle; and his great niece Kinsley. He truly loved his in-laws and nieces and nephews on the Schober side. He was preceded in death by his father.
