Lila Irene Finhert, age 92 of Blanchardville died early Sunday morning, December 19, 2010 at the New Glarus Home in New Glarus. She was born on September 28, 1918 in rural Hollandale to Melvin and Otilda (Peterson) Retrum. She grew up in the River Forks area of rural Hollandale, attended the River Forks rural school, and graduated from the Hollandale High School in 1936. She married Arne Finhert on February 27, 1937 in the Perry Lutheran Church parsonage in Daleyville. They farmed together in the Blanchardville area for their entire married lives, including most of the time in the Yellowstone area of Blanchardville. Lila worked at Micro Switch in Warren, Illinois, and then she and Arne operated the Yellowstone Lake Dairy Stand for 2 years. She was a member of the Yellowstone Lutheran Church in the rural Argyle-Blanchardville area where she enjoyed quilting, worked hard at the annual Norwegian Supper, and was a member of the Women of the ELCA, of which she served as a past president. She was a great baker, especially Norwegian goodies and lefse. She loved embroidering in her earlier years. Lila enjoyed two trips to Norway in later years. She loved playing cards with her friends. In 1990 she moved to her home in Blanchardville, where she lived up until a couple months prior to her death.

Lila is survived by two sons, Arne Martin (Eleanor) Finhert of Oregon, Tom (Virginia) Finhert of Madison, three grandchildren, Lynette Tourdot of Oregon Eric Finhert of Madison, and Tara (Tony) Ukadibia of Madison; three great-grandchildren, Angelique Tourdot, and Olivia and Isabella Ukadibia, and cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Arne who died on February 2, 1982; one son Robert Finhert who died on June 5, 1989; four brothers, Otis, Curtis, Milford and Lloyd; and one sister, Esther Moen.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Yellowstone Lutheran Church in rural Blanchardville-Argyle. Rev. Daniel Bohlman of that church will officiate. Burial will be in the Yellowstone Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, December 21, 2010 from 3:00 until 8:00 PM at the Saether Funeral Home in Blanchardville.
