Lyla Marian (Anderson) Vinje, age 94 of The New Glarus Home, formerly of Hollandale, Wisconsin died on Tuesday evening, September 6, 2011 at the New Glarus Home in New Glarus. She was born on January 4, 1917, in rural Hollandale, the Town of Moscow, Iowa County, Wisconsin to James and Ella (Watrud) Anderson. She went to school in Hollandale, graduated from the Hollandale High School in 1934 and then went on to graduate from The Platteville Teacher's College in 1936. She taught school for over 30 years, beginning in a one room school house in 1936 at the Plain View school, continuing on through the years teaching at the Moscow Center, Prairie, McCutcheon, Clay Hill, and Urness schools and eventually retiring in 1978 from the Barneveld School District. On July 24, 1940, she married Edwin Vinje at the Blanchardville Lutheran Church. She farmed with her husband in the Hollandale area for many years. Lyla was very proud of her Norwegian Heritage, and after her retirement, made a trip to Norway. She was a past member of the Mt. Horeb Sons of Norway and was a charter member of the Iowa County Historical Society where she was president for many years. Lyla also enjoyed spending time with her family and gardening.

Lyla is survived by her three children: Elizabeth Botti of Telford, PA; and Edward and Donald Vinje of Hollandale; six grandchildren, Connie (Bill) Johnson, Ellan Baumgartner, Blair Botti, and Kelly, Jared and Derek Vinje; and five great grandchildren, Daniel, Melissa and Kristin Johnson, and Emma and Charlotte Baumgartner. Lyla was preceded in death by her husband Edwin in 2007; a son Paul in 2010; a brother Herbert in 1969; and a daughter Macy, in infancy.

Funeral services for Lyla Vinje will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Hollandale Lutheran Church in Hollandale. Rev. Mark Gruner of the Pecatonica Lutheran Parish will officiate. Burial will be in the Hollandale Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hollandale Lutheran Church on Monday evening, September 12, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. The Saether Funeral Home in Blanchardville is assisting the family.
