Mabel Genevieve Reed

Mabel Genevieve Reed, age 95, formerly of rural Argyle died on Monday, May 24, 2010 at the Lafayette Manor in Darlington. She was born on August 4, 1914 to Joseph & Amanda (Mellum) Gilbertson in Pleasant Ridge between Dodgeville and Spring Green. She grew up and lived in Pleasant Ridge and attended country school there. Mabel was married in 1943 to Walton "Glenn" Reed in Dubuque, Iowa. They lived in Mineral Point, then Fayette, and then moved to rural Argyle around 1953. In years past Mabel worked at Parker Pen in Janesville, Microswitch in Warren, IL and the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe. She also helped many elderly folks in her home area. She was a member of the Yellowstone Lutheran Church. Mabel was quite a walker, walking to church, town and may funerals and gatherings in other towns. Mabel is survived by four children, Wally Reed of rural Argyle, Alice (Bennie) Stamm of Argyle, Gladys Goodwater of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Jim Reed of Monroe; five grandchildren, Jessica Reed, Danielle Reed, Scott Stamm, Alex Reed, and Mary Jo Marsh; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Glenn who died on February 16, 1976; and one brother, Sanford Gilbertson. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Yellowstone Lutheran Church in the rural Argyle-Blanchardville area at the intersection of Saints Road and Yellowstone Church Road. Rev. Dan Bohlman of that church will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call before the service from 12:00 until 2:00 PM.
