Robert Berg Obituary

Robert LaVerne Berg, age 89 of Blanchardville died on Monday, November 9, 2015 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital in Monroe, Wisconsin. He was born on February 13, 1926 at home in Drammen Valley near Daleyville to Henry Mikkel & Effie Margaret (Retrum) Berg. He grew up on the family farm, most of the time on highway 78 south of Blanchardville, working with his parents and brothers. He attended the Sandy Rock rural school, and graduated from the Blanchardville High School 1944. Robert farmed on his childhood farm his entire life. He was married on June 30, 1964 to Marilyn “Peggy” (Hendrickson) Kolden by Robert’s brother, Rev. Duane A. Berg at the Blanchardville Lutheran Church. He was proud of the John Deere tractors and equipment he owned. He served on the Blanchardville and Pecatonica school boards as treasurer; was an active member of the Blanchardville Lutheran Church where he was on church council and taught Sunday school in the past. Robert was proud to be a Grade A milk producer, and meticulously kept clean milk production. He was also one of the first farmers in the area to use contour strips for land conservation. Robert was a wonderful, loving father, grandfather & great-grandfather. He loved visiting, and was always there to help his family and friends when they needed it. He was proud of the Norwegian flag barn quilt on their barn with 4 gold stars for the 4 Berg brothers.
Robert is survived by his four daughters, Joey Kolden Bryan of New Jersey, Patty (Stuart) Vamstad of Darlington, Kathy (John) Kolden Doyle of Madison, and Ranee (Allan) Olson of Argyle; seven grandchildren, Michael (Miriam) Vamstad, Brad (Jennie) Vamstad, Brian (Hillary) Vamstad, Melissa Bryan, Kyle & Ryan Olson and Jenny (Matt) Wilhelms; six great-grandchildren, Dahlia, Diego, Bryce, Thorin, Cameron, and Jack; and two brothers, Morrion (Volly) Berg of Blanchardville, and Rev. Duane (Kathy) Berg of California.
