Roger James Hanson

Roger James Hanson, age 79, peacefully passed away at the Veterans Home in King, WI on Tuesday, July 9, 2013. Roger was born July 26, 1933 in Moscow, WI to Christian and Frieda (Schraepfer) Hanson. As a boy he worked on the family farm as well as attending elementary and high school. Upon graduation from Blanchardville High School, Roger joined the United States Air Force where he served from July 1951 to July 1955. He was stationed in Texas and California. During his time in the military, he was trained as an X-ray technician. After leaving the Air Force, he was employed at the University of California-Davis until his retirement. While living in CA, Roger enjoyed photography, hunting, fishing and collecting antiques. Roger moved to Mauston, WI and resided there several years before moving to the Veterans Home in King, WI. Roger liked to sing! His friends at King enjoyed and encouraged his impromptu tunes. A man that was easy to please, Roger was often heard to say, "All I need is a good chair, a good bed and a good pair of shoes". His kind spirit, unpredictable comments and generous heart will be missed by his family and friends.

Roger is survived by his brother, Vernon Hanson, Mauston, WI, his sister-in-law, Marjorie (Loe) Thiers, Verona, WI and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Hanson, his sister-in-law, Maybelle (Barber) Hanson and his parents, Frieda (Schraepfer) Hanson and Christian Hanson.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 11, 2013, 1:00, at the Saether Funeral Home, Blanchardville WI. Rev. Mark Gruner of the Pecatonica Lutheran Parish will officiate. Burial will be in the Moscow Cemetery. A visitation will proceed the service from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Sunday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made for the maintenance of the Moscow Cemetary, in care of Vernon Hanson, 1030 Division St., Apt. 104, Mauston, WI 53948.
