Salvatore John Lombardo

Salvatore "Sal" John Lombardo, age 87 of Blanchardville, formerly of northern Wisconsin and before that, the Chicago area, died on Tuesday morning, June 19, 2018 at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe. Sal was born on April 27, 1931 in Chicago to Joseph and Anna Marie (DiCarlo) Lombardo, both born in Sicily. Sal grew up in Chicago and graduated from public grade and high school. He worked in the Chicago Stock Yards, and loaded mail on trains. Sal entered the Seminary in 1950 and was ordained in the Diocese of Lafayette In Indiana in 1960 where he was an active priest for 11 years. Sal later lived for several years in both New Orleans and Las Vegas. He was talented in and loved playing violin, taking the instrument up at age 14. He played for weddings and restaurants and taught violin and other instruments in all the places he lived. Around 1980 Sal moved to northern Wisconsin where he was a salesman and substitute teacher, all in Ashland, Bayfield and Washburn. In 2010 Sal was married to Joanne (Kidwell) Clark. In 2011 Sal and Joanne settled in Blanchardville where they still lived at the time of his death. Sal was devoted in his faith and in the last few years would attend the traditional Latin Mass whenever possible. For Sal, learning that the traditional Catholic Church is still alive and practiced was a very big and welcome event in his life.

Sal is survived by his wife, Joanne Lombardo of Blanchardville; one sister, Marian (Richard) Kavanagh of Elkhart, Indiana, and A brother Joseph (Irene) Lombardo of Park Ridge, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers Mario and James Lombardo.

A visitation for Sal Lombardo will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018 from 9:00 until 11:00 AM at Saint Therese Chapel at 6039 Baltes Road near Waunakee. A Requiem Mass will follow at 11:00 AM. Father Andrew Dwyer will officiate. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Blanchardville. The Saether Funeral Home in Blanchardville is assisting the family.
