Steven Kermit Jeglum, age 79 of Blanchardville died on Thursday, January 9, 2025 surrounded by his family. Steve was born in Monroe on September 11, 1945 to Kermit Howard and Sylvia Edna (Schneider) Jeglum. He grew up on the family farm on Hay Hollow Road with his parents and his brother and sister. He went to the Meadowview rural school, and New Glarus High School. He began working on farms soon after high school. He was married to Patricia Foster on December 27, 1962 in Iowa. In 1967 he and Pat bought their own farm which was adjacent to the family farm. They later lived in the former Meadowview school that Steve attended as a child. He felt a great pride in farming, and took meticulous care of the land and buildings. He later worked as a patrolman for Perry Township. In 2002 he began spending time in Texas and became the manager of the trailer park in Spicewood, Texas where he was living. Steve retired from that in 2016. He loved deer hunting near home and bear hunting in northern Wisconsin. In his early days he loved riding motorcycles and snowmobiling. He was an avid gardener and had chickens in Texas, finding that "once a farmer, always a farmer". He enjoyed playing cards, cribbage and listening to live music. In April of 2000 he started spending time with his partner Julie Nelson. They were together for the remainder of his life. They split their time between Blanchardville and Texas. His grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchild were all definitely his pride and joy.
He is survived by four children, Mike Jeglum of Mount Horeb, Dawn (Mark) Jeglum Bartusch of Holmen, Robin (John) Steiner of West Salem, and Nicole (Dan) Frick of Verona; his partner Julie Nelson of Blanchardville; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and a brother Herman (Marlene) Jeglum of Blanchardville. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Judy Jeglum Trumm.
