Ted Allen Gilbertson, age 63 of Blanchardville died on Sunday morning, December 4, 2016 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. He was born on November 9, 1953 in Monroe to Edward Myrto and Leona Eileen (Schroeder) Gilbertson. He grew up in the Mineral Point area where he worked on the family farm while he was growing up. He went to Oak Park rural school near Mineral Point, and then graduated from the Mineral Point High School in 1971. After graduating he worked for a bit and then went out west to try ranching and traveled with the rodeo for one season. At that time he was a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association. He grew throughout his life to have a great love for horses, and was a member of the Blackhawk Saddle Club. He returned to this area where he worked for area farms, and then met his wife Kathy on a blind date in March of 1973. A week later they were involved in a terrible auto accident where Kathy was seriously injured. Ted stood by her for months while she recovered, and soon after he asked her to marry him. They were married on September 28, 1974 at the Adams Lutheran Church. Ted and Kathy farmed together for a while, he worked for other farmers, and did a lot of relief milking for many area farmers. He worked in the pole building business for CMZ and Cleary, and worked at Trumpy Cheese in Blanchardville a few years. He tended bar and helped manage DJ's bar in Blanchardville. In recent years he worked as a mechanic for the Blanchardville Co-op Oil Association auto shop, and most recently for Cassidy Auto in Hollandale. He served on the Blanchardville Village Board several years, and was a Blanchardville Fire Department member for many years. He was a member of the Blanchardville Rod & Gun Club, the pheasant club and the Pecatonica River Rats cleaning up and improving the Pecatonica River.
