Thomas "Tommy" David Skattum, age 22 of Blanchardville, formerly of Belmont, died Friday morning, January 21, 2011 as a result of an auto accident. He was born on July 22, 1988 in Dubuque, Iowa to Erik & Kay (Burkholder) Skattum. Tommy grew up in the Belmont area, and attended the Belmont schools until 2002 when they moved to Platteville, and then moved to Blanchardville in 2004. Tommy attended the Pecatonica High School in Blanchardville, and graduated in 2007. He worked with his friend Perry Bahr at Pure Water from Mount Horeb. He loved fishing and canoeing trips. Tommy was an avid Packers fan, and looked forward to Packer parties on game days. He also was an avid poker player and loved spending time with his poker buddies, all his friends, and his family. Tommy was always mellow and laid back. He loved and respected everybody, and everybody loved and respected him. Tommy is survived by his mother and father, Kay and Jim Meade of Blanchardville, two sisters, Dee Skattum of Blanchardville, and Tommy's niece Madison (or Peanut to Tommy); and Erika Skattum (and fiancé Dan Ubersox) of Big Lake, Texas; one step-sister, Felicia Meade of Madison and Tommy's nephew Leo; his paternal grandfather, Thomas Skattum of Belmont; his maternal grandparents, David and Delores Burkholder of Platteville; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Erik Skattum who died on June 10, 1998, and his paternal grandmother Edna Skattum who died in 1975. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 from 3:00 until 6:00 PM at the American Legion Post in Blanchardville. A funeral service will be held at the Legion following the visitation at 6:00 PM. Rev. Bill Winike will officiate. The Saether Funeral Home in Blanchardville is assisting the family.
