Ursula Hermanson, age 80, of rural Blanchardville passed away on Monday evening May 16, 2016, under the loving care of hospice and her family. She was born in Zweibrucken, Germany, in 1935 to Alfred and Gertrud Kostka. She lived through the horrors of World War II being evacuated to farm areas in southern Germany. In 1958 she met her future husband David who was deployed in Germany in the armed forces. After David's discharge from the army they met again in New York City where they were married by Iver Sennack, a brother of Paul Sennack who preached some in Blanchardville Lutheran Church. Coming back to Blanchardville area they resided in Monroe for one year where Ursula was employed at Rosa's flower shop and David at the Green County farm north of Monroe. One year later they purchased the Orville Falkedahl farm northeast of Blanchardville where Ursula spent her married life. They have three children: son, Steven Hermanson, married to Kelly (residing in Blanchardville), daughter, Pamela (Hermanson) Ruschman married to Kelly (residing in Mequon), and Kristina Hermanson married to Cameron (residing in Sydney, Australia). Ursula also has four grand children, Mark, Marsha, Alex, and Aria and four step grand children (Karl, Michael, Madeleine, and Maxwell).
Ursula was a member of New Hope Lutheran church in Blanchardville and was known as a Sunday school teacher and adult bible study leader in her younger years. She was an avid scrabble player, where she played in a ladies group, and will always be remembered for her Christmas cookies and her beautiful crocheting and knitting. She met with her knitting group even in the final months of her life. She made many infant caps and socks which she donated to Monroe clinic for the newborn infant care. During the 37 years the couple had dairy cows, Ursula spent many hours with David running the family farm. She loved to travel, and took many trips with her two daughters and husband; many visits back to her hometown in Germany, as well as travel in Norway, Alaska, Switzerland, Greece, Italy, and France. Ursula loved to live in the countryside where it was peaceful and quiet.
To her last days, under the care of hospice, her family and a wonderful caregiver, she went through her Bible marking favorite passages confirming her deep belief that she was a child of God and after death she would be in God's hands for eternity. She was truly at peace with God.
