Veanus Drought

Veanus Sophia Theobald Drought, age 89 of New Glarus and formerly of Blanchardville, passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at the Monroe Hospital in Monroe, Wisconsin, surrounded by family. Veanus was born to Clarence and Hatti (Foster) Klosterman on May 20, 1922. As a young girl, Veanus loved riding and tending to her horses and spending time on her family farm. She graduated from Hollandale High School, in Hollandale, Wisconsin.

Veanus married James Theobald on June 6, 1942. She and Jim had two daughters, Ranee' (Jeron) Jacobson of Baraboo, Wisconsin and Suanne (Alfred) Zimmerman of New Glarus, Wisconsin. Veanus treasured time with her family and anxiously awaited their summer vacations in the Ashland, Wisconsin area. She enjoyed the beauty of the outdoors by gardening and working in her yard. Her husband James died on October 24, 1964. Veanus owned and ran the Old South A&W Rootbeer stand in Blanchardville, Wisconsin for many years. During that time she was married to George Drought. She was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching and discussing all sports. After retiring, Veanus continued living in Blanchardville for many years, and then moved to the New Glarus Home Apartments.

Veanus always looked forward to spending time with her seven grandchildren, seventeen great- grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She never missed a birthday or an opportunity to tell them stories about the past or talk about their futures. Her grandchildren are Jeffery (Laurel) Jacobson, Dawn (Michael) (Jacobson) Schalow, Troy Zimmerman, Jackie (Jeff) (Zimmerman) Eichelkraut, Greg (Angela) Jacobson, Kristyn (Jacobson) Fischer, and Travis (Kayla) Zimmerman. Her great-grandchildren are Anna Jacobson, Michael Hart, Jeron Jacobson, Kendra Mussehl, Jacob Schalow, Charles Jacobson, Tanjy Zimmerman, Kyle Schalow, Jenna Jacobson, Paige Fischer, Jada Zimmerman, Noah Zimmerman, Emma Fischer, Jerra Fischer, Ellie Eichelkraut, Eli Zimmerman, and Simon Zimmerman. Her great-great grandchild is Christian Hart. She is also survived by a step-daughter Carol Larson of Poynette. The family wants to express sincere thanks to special friends Kelly Hermanson and Phyllis Zweifel. Veanus was preceded in death by mother Hatti Klosterman, father Clarence Klosterman, husband James Theobald, husband George Drought and step-brothers Raymond Conwell and John Conwell.

Visitation will be held at the Saether Funeral Home at 109 Water Street in Blanchardville on Thursday, March 8, 2012, 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the Blanchardville United Methodist Church at 101 N. Main St. at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 9, 2012. Rev. Craig Conklin will officiate. A luncheon will follow the funeral services at the church. Veanus will then join her husband James Theobald in burial at Middlebury Church in Barneveld, Wisconsin following the lunch.
