Virginia M. Olson Friske, age 95 of Argyle passed away peacefully in her home on December 8, 2024 at the age of 95. Virginia was born on August 17, 1929 to Clifford and Zola (Hale) Olson on the family farm near Blanchardville where she resided until 1948. She was baptized and confirmed at the Blanchardville Lutheran Church. Virginia graduated from the Loyalty Country School with 7 years of perfect attendance. In 1947 she graduated from Blanchardville High School, as senior class president, with another 4 years of perfect attendance. She was so proud that she never missed a day.
In 1948 Virginia married Peter Nyhus. They were blessed with three daughters, Regina Nyhus, Rhonda (Jim) Schlafli and Renee (Rob) Slack. Together they farmed for 25 years in the Daleyville area and in 1972 they moved to Mt Horeb. While living in Mt Horeb, Virginia worked as a cashier and waitress for 11 years, sales lady and hostess for another 11 years and then 18 years at the Mt. Horeb pharmacy. Virginia loved working and making many new wonderful friends. Virginia belonged to the Blanchardville Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, the Ladies Aid and its circle, sang in the Easter Cantata and then later joined the United Methodist Church in Mt. Horeb. She volunteered at Four Winds Nursing Home and also did in-home care at a doctor's home. She loved to bake, sew and crochet. Everyone always looked forward to the goodies she made.
In 1975 Virginia met Lloyd Friske and they were united in marriage in Las Vegas in 1984. Lloyd and Virginia loved Las Vegas and returned numerous times. They vacationed in Florida, New Mexico, Niagara Falls, North Dakota, Northern Wisconsin and they did some sightseeing trips through the western states and Mexico. In 1990 Lloyd and Virginia started doing craft shows with their daughter Regina and continued that for many years. In 2007 Lloyd and Virginia sold their home in Mt Horeb and built their dream home in Argyle to be closer to family. Lloyd and Virginia babysat their great grandchildren in their final years and loved every minute of it. You would catch them having picnics, taking walks and playing games. Nothing brought them more joy than taking care of Blake, Mason, Mya (her special girl) and Brynlee.
Virginia is survived by her 3 daughters, Regina, Rhonda and Renee, 6 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, her brother Stanley and her parents. Virginia was devoted to her family and often spoke of what wonderful parents and grandparents that she had and how good they were to her. She loved her family unconditionally. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by those who had the honor of having her in their lives. Her presence filled us all with so much joy.
Special thank you to her daughter Regina and granddaughter Mya who made sure Virginia's final moments were peaceful and that she was able to continue to live in her own home until her final day.
