Wayne Maurice Garthwaite

Wayne Maurice Garthwaite, age 63 of Hollandale died on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at the Saint Mary's Hospital in Madison. He was born on October 2, 1953 to Maurice and Lila (Dearth) Garthwaite. He grew up on the family farm in Waldwick, attended the Waldwick Grade School, and then attended and graduated from the Mineral Point High School in 1971. Wayne grew up loving horses and was active with raising, showing, and later, racing horses. He graduated from South West Tech in Fennimore with an associate degree in accounting. Wayne worked in accounting for Hallada Ford in Dodgeville for over 20 years until his retirement. He was an active member and former president of the Hollandale Lutheran Church which later became New Hope Lutheran. Wayne enjoyed fishing, including a couple fishing trips to Canada. He loved watching his grandkid's involvement in 4-H. He went camping and snowmobiling with his family. Wayne loved being a grandpa, spending time with his grandchildren and attending their events. Family was everything to him. He also enjoyed traveling with his siblings to Alaska, Colorado and the south.
Wayne is survived by two children, Aaron (Kate) Garthwaite of Hollandale, and Courtney Garthwaite of Madison; five grandchildren, Gavin, Skylar, Olivia, Piper and Grayson; three sisters, Myra Johnson of Orlando, FL, Lois (Joe) Schmit of Plano, IL, and Jennifer (Nick) Meyers of Hazel Green, WI; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Warren Garthwaite; and three sisters, Janet Garthwaite, Beverly Faull and Nancee Moyer.
A visitation for Wayne Garthwaite will be held on Thursday evening, May 18, 2017 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at Blanchard Hall on Main Street in Blanchardville. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 11:00 AM at New Hope Lutheran in Hollandale. Rev. Michelle Elfers will officiate. Burial will be in the Waldwick Cemetery.
