Betty Olson Obituary

Betty Leigh Olson age 92 of Blanchardville died on Sunday, September 6, 2020 at the Monroe Clinic Hospice Home following a short illness. She was born on August 24, 1928 in Mineral Point, Wisconsin to Roland and Laura (Leigh) Treloar. She grew up in Mineral Point, Ridgeway and Monroe and graduated from the Monroe High School as Valedictorian in 1946. She was married on June 26, 1949 to Stanley Olson in the Blanchardville Lutheran Church. They lived on the family farm and took over running it in January of 1952 until 1964 when they built a home in Blanchardville and moved there for the remainder of her life. She worked at Swiss Colony until her retirement having been with them for many years. Following their retirement, Stanley and Betty loved traveling, especially visiting their children who lived all over the US and in London, England. She was a member of the Blanchardville Lutheran Church, now New Hope Lutheran, where she held various offices and was a member of the Ladies Aide and Circles. She belonged to Eastern Star where she was also a 50 year member; to Rainbow Girls where she held an office; was a member of the Blanchardville Women’s Club; was active in Green County political events; and was active in the Green County Ag Chest. She was an avid bowler and golfer. Stanley and Betty had been part of a card club with the same group of friends for over 60 years.

Betty is survived by; five children, Shelley (Daryl) Barth of Jacksonville, FL, Stewart (Clare) Olson of Olympia, Washington, Spencer Olson of Blanchardville, Scott (Laurie Hefty) Olson of Parker, CO, Stanton (Dena) Olson of Kansas City, MO; one sister, DeLea (Donald) Flannery of Tucson, Arizona, twelve grandchildren; Andrea, Sara, Kari, Jason, Justin, Brian, Erik, Zachary, Nathanial, Andrew, Jason, Amy;  20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley, parents, a daughter, Stacey Strempke and a sister, Jacqueline Maurer.

Private funeral services will be held on Friday, September 11, 2020 at the New Hope Lutheran Church in Blanchardville. Rev. Carol Baumgartner of New Hope Lutheran will officiate. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Blanchardville. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to New Hope Lutheran in memory of Betty L.
