Carol Joan Gaberell, age 80 of rural Mount Horeb passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday December 28, 2021, after a long battle with dementia. Carol was born on October 2, 1941, in Madison, Wisconsin to Reno Le Roy and Pauline Hermina Graf Gehrke. She was one of eighteen children. Carol married Jimmie Gaberell in 1983 and moved to Mount Horeb where they enjoyed 38 years of marriage. Carol was a very diligent worker. For fifteen years she worked for Madison Newspapers delivering bundle newspapers to paper boys during snow, rain, or shine. She also cooked meals for students at the UW Student Union, assembled blinds at Springs Window Fashions, worked at The Chocolate Shop and Oakwood Village. Carol enjoyed working on multiple projects and she was an excellent cook. She loved spending time with her favorite child, Calvin Klein (four legged). She also loved spending time with her family and friends. Carol was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt. If you ever needed anything she would be there for you.
Surviving members of Carol’s immediate family are her husband Jimmie, her dog Calvin, her daughter Julia White, granddaughters Alyson and Bryce, great granddaughter Ava Anderson and her daughter Jackie (Mark) Gierck, granddaughter Morgan and Olivia, her son Anthony Thorstad, grandchildren Tate, Luke and Jonnaki, Her son Dale (Kelly) Thorstad, grandchildren Sabrina and Jamie, great grandchild Anabella. Stepson Timothy (Hiedi) Gaberell, grandchildren Sadie and Claire. Stepdaughter Carrie (Joe) Dellenbusch, grandchildren Isacc and Sylvia, and great grandchildren Roselie and Demetry. Stepson Mathew (Megan) Gaberell, and grandchildren Emma and Grant.
Also surviving are her sisters Anna Mae Rowin, Phyliss Rodefeld and Pauline (Polly) Stout and brothers, Lowel, Raymond, Frank, Reno, and Douglas. There are a great many nieces, and nephews. Preceding Carol in death are her parents, two sons, Robert and Scott, sisters Hazel Learned, Hilda Learned, Ella May, and brothers LeRoy, Kenneth, Herman, Paul, Phillip, and James.
A visitation for Carol will be held Friday, January 7, 2022 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at Blanchard Hall at 206 South Main Street in Blanchardville. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Hope Lutheran Church, 3702 County Hwy AB, McFarland. Burial will follow at the Hope Cottage Grove Cemetery. A lunch will be served following burial at the Edwards-Foye American Legion Post 534 at 4911 Burma Rd in McFarland. Saether Funeral Service of Blanchardville is assisting the family.
