Carol Helmeid Obituary

     Carol Ann Helmeid, age 81, of Blanchardville, died on Monday, May 2, 2022 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital in Monroe, Wisconsin.  She was born March 4, 1941 in Monroe, Wisconsin the daughter Orville and Ruth (Rufenacht) Engstad. She graduated from Blanchardville High School in 1959. She worked as an IBM key punch operator for Agricultural Records Cooperative in Middleton.  On December 1,1962 she married Robert Helmeid in the Blanchardville Lutheran Church. Carol farmed with her husband Robert in York Township, Green County milking dairy cows until 2014.  Carol was named Green County’s Outstanding Senior Ag Woman and Bob and Carol were named Green County’s Oldest Dairy couple during the time they farmed together. Carol was also active with the Blanchardville Dairy Queen program. Carol later worked at the Pecatonica School in both Blanchardville and Hollandale as part of the food service staff until March 2022. 

     Carol was a member of the Blanchardville Lutheran Church, now New Hope Lutheran, where she served as a youth leader during the years her children were involved and she sang in the church choir. She was a member of the Adams Homemakers and enjoyed card club for many years.  Carol was an active member of the Blanchardville Jaycettes.  It was through her involvement in this group that she connected with a wonderful group of friends that loved to spend time together whether it was to travel on the Blanchardville Girl’s weekend or host parties for a variety of events.  Carol loved gardening, cooking, animals especially her dogs and most of all spending time with her family.  She and Bob would travel many places to see their grandchildren at various events with favorites being State FFA Convention, FFA banquets and sporting activities.

     Survivors include her husband Robert Helmeid of Blanchardville, her daughter Cheryl (Mark) Zimmerman of Spencer, and her son, Kevin (Joellyn) Helmeid of Reedsburg.  Her grandchildren include Aaron (Leeah) Zimmerman, Blanchardville; Ashley (Jack) Crowson, Kasson, Minnesota; Katelyn Zimmerman, Ames, Iowa; Cortney Zimmerman, Spencer; Mitchell (Courtney) Helmeid, Sun Prairie; Brockton Helmeid, Madison;  and Casen Helmeid, Brogan Helmeid and Emma Helmeid all of Reedsburg.  She has one brother Richard (Carol) Engstad, Mount Horeb. She was preceded in death by her parents.

     A visitation for Carol Helmeid will be held on Friday, May 6th from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at Blanchard Hall at 204 South Main Street in Blanchardville.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 11:00 am at New Hope Lutheran in Blanchardville at 305 Madison Street.
