Carroll Steele Obituary

Carroll Melvin Steele, age 85 of rural Dodgeville died unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 with his wife by his side.  He was born on September 17, 1935 to Clarence Frank and Effie Clara (Sterling) Steele in Darlington.  He grew up in Blanchardville where his parents farmed, and he went to country school near Blanchardville.  He started farming with his father and continued farming in several locations in south central Wisconsin.  Carroll started driving a milk truck and hauled milk for 35 years for many companies.  He met his future wife at Club 18 at dances.  He and Carol Ann Stenseth were married on May 2, 1959 at the Perry Lutheran Church in Daleyville.  They lived on several farms in south central Wisconsin, then lived in Mineral Point for several years, and then settled outside Dodgeville.

 

Carroll loved calling his friends and family to visit and gossip.  Loved going to the coffee shops and visiting with the folks there.  He was a big Packers, and Wisconsin Badger fan.  Years ago he loved going around dancing with his wife Carol Ann.  He had many nicknames, and was known as Man of Steele, Studly, George, Big Red and many more.  He and his brother Wallace also yodeled and sang the auctioneer song together.

 

Carroll is survived by his wife, Carol Steele of Dodgeville; four children, Gary Steele of Dodgeville, Linda (Mike Stietz) DeVoe of Darlington, Randy (Jenny Quirk) Steele of Darlington, Teresa (Todd Gullickson) Steele of Mineral Point; four grandchildren, Branden (Angie Hartman) Reuter of Monroe, Jason (Amanda Hartman) DeVoe of Argyle, Bradley LaDow of Dodgeville, and Tabetha (Brent Corpora) Steele of Rio; four great-grandchildren, Keaton, Lonnie, Aiden, Drake, and one more on the way; a sister, Marie Faye of Stoughton, and a brother, Wallace Steele of Belleville.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Ricky Alan Steele who died on July 4, 1960; a son-in-law Butch DeVoe in 2013; a sister, Marian; a brother Harland; and a sister-in-law Laural.

 

A visitation for Carroll Steele will be held Sunday evening, August 8, 2021 from 4:00 until 8:00 pm at Blanchard Hall at 206 South Main Street in Blanchardville.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 9, 2021 at Blanchard Hall.  Rev. Kelli Fisher of the Perry Lutheran Church in Daleyville will officiate.  Burial will be in the Perry Cemetery in Daleyville.  Saether Funeral Service of Blanchardville assisted the family.  Online memories and condolences can be shared with the family at saetherfuneralservice.com
