Daniel "Parkie" Parkinson Obituary

Daniel “Parkie” Morgan Parkinson, age 89 of Blanchardville died on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital.  He was born on December 14, 1930 at home in Mineral Point to Donald Mason & Madeline Lillian (Chapman) Parkinson.  He grew up in the Hollandale area.  He graduated from the Blanchardville High School in 1949.  He enlisted in the United States Navy and served at sea.  Following that he returned to the Blanchardville area.  He was married to Audrey Jean Kolden on June 24, 1951 in the Blanchardville Lutheran Church.  Parkie was a very self-reliant man who made his own way in life.  He worked at Pet Milk in New Glarus; he ran a dump truck with Casper Schober; and for many years he worked with his close friend and relative, Doc Baker, the Blanchardville area veterinarian.   He farmed with his father-in-law Edwin Kolden in rural Blanchardville, and in 1967 he moved to the farm the family still owns.  He was very generous and a giving man.  He had a way of making everyone feel like his close friend.  He was a member of New Hope Lutheran church.  He served on the Blanchard Township board for many years.  He was a licensed pilot and owned his own plane, flying out of the Bakers Flats landing strip.  He also loved coyote hunting with dogs for many years, and loved trap shooting with family.

Dan is survived by his wife, Audrey Parkinson of The New Glarus Home, formerly of Blanchardville.  Four children, James (Jane) Parkinson of Monroe, Kathy (Peter) Stamas of Waunakee, Judith (James) Zimmerman of Blanchardville, and Jerry (Kathy) Parkinson of Blanchardville; 10 grandchildren, Peter, Jacob, Nicholas, Anastasia, Nicholas, Alycia, Joel, Sarah, Joshua, and Danny; 9 great-grandchildren; two siblings, Homer Lee Parkinson of Naples, Fl, and Thais Parkinson of Beloit.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
