Donald Quinn Obituary

Donald Patrick Quinn, age 73 of Blanchardville died on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at the VA Hospital in Milwaukee after a year and a half of battling with ALS.  He was born on March 28, 1948 in Platteville to James Harold and Kathryn Agnes (McDonald) Quinn.  Don grew up in Platteville with his parents and his 4 brothers and 6 sisters.  He attended school in Platteville and graduated from the Platteville High School in 1966.  He was drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam era, and served in Vietnam for a year and a half.  He was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded in service.  After his discharge he returned to Platteville and owned a gas station.  In 1973 he met Melody “Ann” Brendemuehl.  They were married on January 26, 1974 at the Catholic Church in Lancaster.  They lived in Platteville, and managed the American Legion bar for 4 years.  He then managed the Garden Gate restaurant in Platteville, and then they moved to Dodgeville in 1988 and operated the Dodgeville location for a while.  After that, Don began his career in the insurance business, eventually becoming an independent agent.  They moved to Hollandale in 1993 and then moved to Blanchardville in 1999.  Don and Ann and also the family enjoyed traveling together.  He loved time spent with his immediate family.  Don and Ann went to numerous places in Mexico with Chelem in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico becoming their “second home”.  Don also loved golfing with his brothers, and meeting friends at his favorite watering hole.  Don loved westerns, Andy Griffiths, Judge Judy and also classic country music.

 

Don is survived by his wife, Ann Quinn of Blanchardville; two daughters, Nicole Breuer of Bloomington, and Megan (Dominic) Amble of Barneveld; 6 grandchildren, Savana Amble, Cailey Suhr- Breuer, Samantha Amble, Lorelei Amble, Tatum Breuer, Cooper Breuer; 2 brothers, Joe Quinn and Dale (Vickie) Quinn; 5 sisters, Marilyn (Gary) Erdmann, Joann (Ken) McNamar, Rosemary Coppernoll, Helen (Doug) Finley, and Carole (Rick) Sell; and sister-in-law Beth Quinn.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Katrina “Tina” Dawn Quinn who died in 2004; three siblings, Eileen Prochaska, Robert Quinn and infant brother James Quinn; son-in-law Jeff Suhr; brother-in-law John Krog; and a nephew Kurt Erdmann.

 

A visitation for Donald Quinn will be held on Monday evening, September 13, 2021 from 4:00 until 8:00 pm at Blanchard Hall at 204 South Main Street in Blanchardville.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Blanchardville.  Fr. Paul Eruva of the St. Isidore Parish will officiate.  The service will be livestreamed at: http://www.facebook.com/saetherfuneralservice  Burial with military graveside honors by the Dobson-Johnson-Gallagher American Legion Post and the United States Army will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Blanchardville.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to benefit ALS research.  Saether Funeral Service of Blanchardville is assisting the family.  Online memories and condolences can be shared with the family at www.saetherfuneralservice.com
