Jennifer Garrett Obituary

Jennifer L. (Flanigan) Garrett passed away peacefully with the company of her loving mother (Linda Thompson) and brother (Brian Flanigan Jr) in the early morning of Sunday, December 20, 2020 in Florida. Jen’s great joy was being a mother to her beautiful daughters, Lyric (11) and Arianna (8) Headley. Her love for her daughters was paramount. She loved being their mother.

Jennifer was born on July 4, 1986, and grew up in Blanchardville, WI. She graduated from Pecatonica High School (Blanchardville, WI) in 2004 and from Clarke College (Dubuque, IA) in 2008 with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. Jenny moved to Florida after college, where she found many opportunities to pursue her love of music and singing, spending time on the beach, gardening, cooking and baking. Jen started a baking business, “Cast Iron + Coconut”, with her friend Racheal. On November 9, 2019, Jennifer married her loving husband, Kalip Garrett, and became a step-mom to his son, Kian. She loved camping and time at the beach with her family. She loved snuggles with her dogs, especially her loyal companion Frank, sweet Jake and even Walter.

Jen was diagnosed in Spring 2018 with Stage 3/4 colorectal cancer. She did not let this disease define her life. While pursuing aggressive treatments in Houston and Florida, including clinical trials, she was determined to continue with the things she loved including spending time with her girls. Her mom moved to Florida to assist with appointments and looking after her girls, which gave them precious time together to enjoy gardening, cooking family recipes, and enjoying the Florida beaches. When the pandemic hit, Jen supported Lyric and Ari with virtual learning, relying on her teacher skills to design fun and meaningful lessons at home.

Jennifer is survived by her husband, Kalip Garrett; her daughters, Lyric and Arianna Headley; step-son, Kian; mother, Linda Thompson; father, Brian Flanigan Sr.; brother, Brian (Kristy) Flanigan, and nephew, Oliver; brother, Sean Flanigan; step-sister, Jessica (Kevan) Smith, and niece, Bryn; step-brother, Ben (Colleen)Thompson; grandmother, Barb Lien; grandparents, Lin and Doug Baer; as well as many other loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.   She was preceded in death by her step-father, Bob Thompson; grandfather, Ardell Lien; and Aunt Joan Lien.

Jenny will be remembered for her ever loving, helpful, and kind soul, always putting others needs before her own. She will be missed by all those whose lives she touched, but with her angelic singing in our heart, she will never be forgotten.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 4:00 PM at the upper McKellar Park shelter in Blanchardville, starting with a service of sharing memories and stories honoring her life, and continuing on after the service, celebrating her life with food, games, visiting and telling stories about Jennifer.
