Jerry Allen Dammen, age 80 of the Blanchardville area died on Thursday morning, May 20, 2021 in Monroe at Monroe Health Services. He was born on April 19, 1941 in rural Mount Horeb to Clarence Martin and Twila Clarinda (Gilbertson) Dammen. The family lived in rural Blanchardville where they farmed. He attended rural school, and then went to the Blanchardville High School where he loved playing football, and graduated in 1959. He entered the United States Army, and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was discharged in June of 1961. He began farming after leaving service, and then worked for Ruf Farm Service as a sales representative. He worked for several companies selling agricultural equipment for many years until driving truck for a time for Blue Valley Trucking from Mount Horeb. Later in his years he began working in real estate for Weber Realty in Madison and finally for Garthwaite Realty out of Blanchardville. He was married to Karen Hinrichs in Middleton. Together they had four children. In 1991 he married Sandra (Tschanz) Simpson in Mount Horeb. Jerry and Sandi lived in Mount Horeb, and later lived in the Blanchardville area.
Jerry was a proud American and Veteran. He was a member of the Dobson-Johnson-Gallagher American Legion Post 142 of Blanchardville. He was also a member of the Yellowstone Lutheran Church for his entire life. Jerry was proud of his Norwegian heritage, loved hunting and fishing, and was a loyal Brewer and Packer fan. He enjoyed traveling and loved history. The farm boy in him never left, being a great mechanic, and loving animals. He was a wonderful woodworker, and enjoyed building things. He played Golf and enjoyed the outdoors, including going for country drives and looking at the fields. He was a great Euchre player. He was very good at making Old Fashioneds. Most of all, he adored his family, and loved being a father, grandfather and husband.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Sandi Dammen of Madison; two daughters, Kathy (Tracy) Thronson of Blue Mounds, and Jenda Simpson of McFarland; one son, Steve (Kristen) Simpson of Verona; nine grandchildren, Nate Dammen of Blanchardville, Chris (Katie Robelia) Dammen of Shullsburg, Maddie (Cal Kohls) Thronson of West Allis, Luke (Ashley Rickey) Thronson of Black Earth, Cody (Rosa) Rufener of Norfolk, VA, J’Lee (Colin LeFebvre) Hanson of McFarland, Pierce Hanson of Madison, Easton Simpson and Annika Simpson of Verona; three great grandsons, Liam and Ethan Rufener of Norfolk, VA, and Kason Thronson of Black Earth, with one more on the way; one brother Clayton (Barbara) Dammen of Darlington; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Karen; three sons, Larry, David and Jim Dammen; and his granddaughter Brooke Dammen.

A visitation for Jerry will be held on Wednesday evening, May 26, 2021 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at Blanchard Hall at 204 South Main Street in Blanchardville. A funeral service will be Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Yellowstone Lutheran Church at 4472 Saints Rd, in rural Blanchardville. Rev. Daniel Bohlman will officiate.

Burial will be in the Yellowstone Cemetery. Graveside Military Honors will be provided by the Dobson-Johnson-Gallagher American Legion Post of Blanchardville. A catered funeral lunch will follow at Blanchard Hall. Saether Funeral Service of Blanchardville is assisting the family.
