John Meade Obituary

John Paul Meade, age 74 of Blanchardville died on Thursday evening, June 9, 2022 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison after a very short illness.  John was born in Monroe January 19, 1948 to Raymond and Martha (Severson) Meade.  He grew up on County A outside of Argyle on the farm with his parents and siblings, attended the Meadowbrook rural school and then Argyle High School, graduating in 1966.  He was hauling milk for the Apple Grove Cheese Factory where Irv Rufener was the cheese maker while in High School.  Soon after graduating he started working for the Blanchardville Co-Op Oil Association in the auto repair shop, and then did on the farm tire work for the Co-Op.  He worked there until his retirement on December 31, 2012.  John met his future wife, Ann Marie Olson in 1970, they were married on August 31, 1973.  They lived in rural Blanchardville and then moved into Blanchardville soon after they were married.  John had 40 acres of land and raised beef cattle.  He was very mechanically talented and passed that skill and hobby on to his sons.  He was very generous with his knowledge and would help anyone with mechanical work and advice.  He and his sons were always working on mechanical projects, fixing motors and moving them from one piece of equipment to another.  He also enjoyed antique tractor pulling in the mid-1980’s and enjoyed following the hobby of modern tractor pulling which his sons were very active in.  For over 20 years he and Ann went to Greenland Michigan for the Michigan Wisconsin Antique Power Association for antique engine gatherings.  John was a member of the Adams Lutheran Church for his entire life.  John and Ann had a camper and enjoyed going camping in different places in Wisconsin.

John is survived by his wife, Ann Meade of Blanchardville; one son Steve Meade of Blanchardville; one sister, Sybil (David) Vickland of Broomfield, CO; a sister-in-law, Joann Meade of Blanchardville; and one niece Heidi Ryser and two nephews, Christopher and Charles Vickland.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Darren Meade who died in a farming accident on December 15, 2019; and one brother Raymond Meade.
