Maynard Juel Swenson, age 85 of rural Barneveld died on Thursday morning, February 6, 2020 at the VA Hospital in Madison. He was born on September 20, 1934 in the Town of Moscow on the family farm to Malcolm and Hazel (Evenson) Swenson. He grew up working with his family on the farm. He went to the Adamsville rural school, and Hollandale High School, graduating in 1952. Following high school, he continued farming with the family until April of 1954 when he went into the US Army. He served in Germany with the Army, and was discharged in April of 1956. He returned to farming, and then bought the farm after several years. He was married to Jean Solberg on November 11, 1958 in the Blanchardville Lutheran Church parsonage. They farmed together all their married lives. He was a member of the Hollandale Lutheran Church at one time and served on the church council. They later joined the Perry Lutheran Church. Maynard loved his family and working on the farm.
Maynard is survived by one son, Mark Swenson of Barneveld; two daughters, Sonja Swenson of rural Hollandale, and Kristine Swenson of rural Barneveld; two grandchildren, Scarlet and Jon; and many family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Jean who died on May 24, 2019.
A visitation for Maynard will be held on Monday morning, February 17, 2020 from 9:00 until 11:00 AM at the Perry Lutheran Church in Daleyville. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. Rev. Kelli Fisher will officiate. A funeral lunch will follow in the church basement immediately after the service. Burial will be in the Long Valley Cemetery in rural Hollandale.
