Nicholas Day Obituary

Nicholas “Nick” James Day, age 26 of Blue Mounds died unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 15, 2020.  He was born on November 18, 1993 in Madison to James Curtis and Donna Jean (Luhman) Day.  Nick grew up on the family dairy farm on Day road in rural Hollandale, with his family, eventually working with them on the farm.  In his younger years, he started running to the barn, usually beating his sister.  He started loving track in grade school, and excelled in high school, running competitively and for the joy and love of it for the remainder of his life.  He also enjoyed wrestling in his earlier years.  Nick loved fishing, especially with Grandpa Norbert, and got his love for lefse from Grandma Florence.  He eventually started raising fish in aquariums and small ponds.  He loved small game hunting with his brother Cody, and snowmobiling.  Nick attended school in Mount Horeb, Mineral Point for a year, and then graduated from the Mount Horeb High School in 2012.  In September of 2012 he started serving his country in the United States Navy.  His basic training was at Great Lakes Naval Base in the Chicago area, then he served in LeMoore, California at the LeMoore Naval Base for six years.  He was a F-18 Super Hornet mechanic.  In 2013 he married Ciara, and from that union, their daughter Chloe Agera Day was born.  He was deployed twice on ships, in 2014 and 2017, in 2018 Nick’s father was able to join him in Hawaii and cruise back to San Diego on the ship with Nick and his shipmates on the Tiger Cruise.  After his discharge 2018 he returned to Blue Mounds.  He began working for Sub Zero where he worked with life-long friends Damon Baker and Michael Wolter.  He later started working at Cummings in Mineral Point, and then most recently worked for Barricade Flasher traffic control in Mazomanie.  After his time at Cummings he also started his own business, Torque Motorsports, LLC, working on snowmobiles and jet-skis, which he was still operating. 

 

Nick is survived by his daughter, Chloe Day; his mother, Donna Luhman of Blue Mounds; his father Jim (Jo) Day of rural Hollandale; three siblings, Ashley (Brent) Schroeder of Darlington, Lauren Day of Blue Mounds, and Cody (Peyton Andersen) Kellesvig of Blue Mounds; paternal grandparents, Norbert & Florence Day of rural Hollandale; maternal grandmother, Beverly Luhman Mount Horeb; a nephew Hunter; a niece Alexis; many aunts, uncles, cousins and other family and friends, including Chloe’s mother, Ciara Day.  He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Henry Luhman.

 

A visitation for Nick Day will be held on Friday afternoon and evening, January 24, 2020 from 3:00 until 8:00 PM at the Perry Lutheran Church in Daleyville.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday morning, January 25, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the church.  Rev. Kelli Fisher of that church will officiate.  Burial will be in the Perry Lutheran Church cemetery.  Saether Funeral Service of Blanchardville is assisting the family.  Online memories and condolences can be shared with the family at www.saetherfuneralservice.com.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to be made to the family to be donated in Nick's memory and for Chloe’s education.
